Gosh, I would really suggest speaking to a doctor first.

The sofa isn't designed to support your back when you are asleep. If you are quite large breasted this can be a problem because women with large chests have a lot of pressure put on their chests and so lying on their back doesn't really feel comfortable to sleep at night.

Sleeping on the sofa could be down to psychological feelings about the bedroom as much as it is about comfort.

Do you fall asleep on the sofa because you can hear the tv?

Is your bed particularly uncomfortable? You may want to change the matress?

Try sleeping on a different side of the bed?

Is the problem with your bed or your partner? Have you tried sleeping in a separate bed? That will be better for your back than the sofa. Maybe you are having trouble sleeping with your partner in the same bed. Also, you could try the air beds that let you choose the firmness of your side of the bed. It could be that the mattress you are using is not right for you. Another option is a memory foam bed. All of these will be less expensive than the back sugery you will probably need in the future from sleeping on the couch.

It is not a good habit to get into - you are probably stressed about the move - once you get used to sleeping somewhere it becomes a bad habit and you start to believe that you will not be able to sleep eanywhere else. This could cause serious problems in your relationship. Is the mattress comfortable? Do you have a tv or radio in your room? They are actually really bad for getting a good night's sleep. is the bedroom arranged in a restful way? Or do you subconsciously want to get away from your partner? It sounds to me as though you may have one or two anxieties over things - perfectly understandable, but do see your GP before this gets out of hand. Good luck :)

If you are getting a good nights rest, I don't think sleeping on the sofa is bad. However, you may have a breathing problem so have your doctor check you or have a sleep study done.

You might have sleep apnea. & when you sleep on the sofa everything just lines up just right for you to get a good nights sleep. Ask your doctor about this condition. They have a machine called a C-PAP that can help as well.

Apart from perhaps giving you back problems it probably isnt bad for you, but it wont do your relationship a lot of good! The breathing problem is probably a panic attack. If I were you I would want to talk to my doctor about it as you could have underlaying psychological issues which need sorting out.
