I mean, I like the fact that they're all going to die young from their filthy habits, but I just wonder what it is about them that makes them all smoke?

In Japan, the government has a monopoly on tobacco distribution and therefore has a vested interest in increasing usage to bring in more cash. In China, until recently, they didn't have much else to entertain them and every picture of their god (Mao) showed him smoking. Once they were hooked, most stayed hooked and that may just be a societal or genetic result.

By orientals, I assume you include all asians. If that is so,
you have never been to the Philippines. And, you don't know many filipinos. It is true tht some smoke. It is also true that most don't.

American television influence can be blamed for a part of the smoking attraction and habit I suppose.

However, I would far prefer them to smoke cigarettes than to suck on heroin pipes, and smoke weed and crack.
Wouldn't you?

First off, do not call asian people oriental. The orient was a slave trading route in the 1700s and 1800s. DONT CALL THEM ORIENTS!

Secondy, why single out asians? Why not go to your local coffee shop or starbucks and choose to pin point emo people?

Thirdly, It may be a filthy habit but it is absolutely none of your business why someone chooses to smoke!

Well would you look at that, three strikes.

Western Man discovered tobacco from Native Americans.

Western Man made tobacco his own.

This new tobacco became a trade.

The West gave the new world a new narcotic.

But alas, he who got hooked on the newly discovered narcotic is nearly as foolish as he who spread tobacco itself.

If only Native American peace pipes were still fashionable - and opium were not banned! Would we still need tiny cigarettes then?

First of all, no need to be an ***.

Secondly, smoking is more common outside of the US in general, and it's considered polite to offer someone a cigarette when they visit your house in China.

Probably because American tobacco companies are now targeting that audience. Since the industry has had to quit marketing to kids and many American cities are cutting out smoking in so many areas, they had to switch markets and look at foreign areas.

Because you expect to see it, so you're only noticing the smoking ones. I work with over 100 Asians and only one smokes.

Because the big tobacco companies are being restricted from advertising their products in western countries so they have moved on to developing nations, mostly in Asia to push their products.
