Perhaps you have overlooked chiropractic for this problem...known to be quite effective in this area. Migraine Syndrome is a neurological problem which involves most or all of the cranial nerves... this in turn alters the sympathetic/parasympathetic system and brings even more problems into play. There is need to return them to a balanced state.

I'm sorry, but I never had any luck with the herbal remedies myself. I am a 10 year sufferer with constant migraines, about 40 years total sporadically. The severe ones started when I was perimenopausal and I was assured that they would get better when I was postmenopausal. Not so much!

What finally worked for me was two-fold. I was on a daily medication of 500 mg. depakote and 50 mg topamax. The doctor said this SHOULD NOT WORK -- cocktails like that don't usually for migraines. But the depakote alone was no longer working for me and I could not tolerate the topamax and it was not working.

Turns out that cocktail worked JUST FINE for me, for about 1 year. Then, we discovered (by pure accident!!) that many, if not most, of my migraines were no longer coming from my hormones, as they had been before. It seems I had developed a severe reaction to sulfites and phosphates that I'd never had before or even known about! The surprise was WHERE I was getting them from -- the salad bars at restaurants, salads at fast food places, chicken -- both fresh (check the labels to be sure!!) and from fast food places, fresh pork (again, check the labels), balsamic vinegar, most salad dressings, etc. etc.

Since we began scrupulously watching my diet, my migraines are down to about 1 every 6 weeks -- TOTALLY tolerable with Axert to knock it out!! One tablet does the job. It means a little extra work picking out food and watching what I eat when I go out, but it it SO worth it.

Anyway, maybe this information may be of some help to you. I know that being on pills a lot is a trouble -- it was for me. But I found my answer, it seems. Hopefully, you will be able to find yours. Good luck!

I treat many people with migraines in my clinic. Most migraines I have treated come from muscle tension or dural stagnation (long explanation), both are treatable with chiropractic. I am part of a special group of chiropractors, located all over the world, that treat cranial related complaints, such as migraines. Not all chiropractors are trained in this, only the few that dedicate the time and energy at the specific conferrences. You sound like you don't like medication which is a very wise choice. I suggest going to www.sorsi.com to find a doctor in your area. If you are in Minnesota near the Twin Cities, or if you have any other questions or concerns, email me.

When I went to Korea, I saw a lot of Koreans with red spots in the middle of their foreheads and on their temples. When I inquired about it, I was told that they take a spoon and rub those areas when they have migraines and it make the headache go away. It seems to work for me too, however I get a migraine once every blue moon or so.

If nothing else works, go for Accupuncture. They treat migraines and other ailments. No herbal remedies work for me. I use Exedrine Migraine in the event of an attack and it works really fast.

Some of our MonaVie cutomers report alleviation of their headaches including migraines. Doesn't work for all, but some get complete relief.
(Meds don't help everyone either).
See Prescription For Natural Cures by Balch & Stenger for good info and discussion with other natural remedies.
Good luck!

butterbur is an herb that has been shown to decrease intensity & frequency of migraines in research studies.
it can be found in a product called petadolex which is from germany.... there may be other companies that sell it too, but that is the one that has been studied the most.
http://www.pubmed.com type in butterbur in the search bar & see what comes up. you should find some good studies on it.

have you been to a neurologist or is your primary care doc treating them for you? there are great preventive meds out there-- topamax is one, verapamil is another. he or she will tell you what will work best for you.
triptans (zomig, imitrex, relpax etc) work quickly to relieve the pain.
