I will be on a web page or just maybe opening my mail and suddenly my mouse will just go flying off. I get it back in control but what would cause this to happen?

My mouse is not wireless and I do use a mouse pad. It even does it when I go to close out of a program.

A few things. Dirt on the rollers and ball. Broken wire.

I would get a new mouse. Get an Optical mouse this time. But I don't recommend a wireless mouse. They are heavy and hard to handle for long periods of time. (The batteries inside make it heavy).

If it is a desktop, with a ball in the bottom, open the mouse and take out the ball. You will probably see a bunch of "junk" build up the the two little wheels or bars that the mouse ball turns. Clean those off.

If it is a laptop, it probably has a build in "eraser" mouse or a touchpad. Go into the control pad and the Mouse icon and trying reducing the sensitivity of those devices. Hopefully that will resolve the problem.
If it keeps doing it, turn them and use an external mouse as a test. If the problem goes away, then you may have a short in either the touchpad or "eraser". Very common in Dell laptops. Will need to get that looked at by a pro. Usually they have to replace the keyboard. Should be covered by warranty if the laptop is new enough to still have the warranty. (Do a couple of these every day)

It's either you need a new mouse or it needs to be cleaned . Just flip the mouse over. You 'll see an opening, should be arrows to show the direction how to open it... A ball should fall out, take Q-tips with rubbing alcohol and clean the rollers inside the mouse and also take a napkin or paper towel and clean the ball... Then put the mouse back together... If it gives you trouble, then you need to buy a new mouse .

The easiest thing to do would be to get a new mouse, doesn't matter what kind. The mouse you have will only turn from speeding off in all directions to just sticking and won't move at all.
That's what happened to my last mouse.

Depends on what type of mouse.

Wireless mouse? Replace your batteries.

Optical Mouse? Use it on a mouse pad or NON-reflective surface.

Ball-Mouse? Open underside of mouse so ball falls out. Clean rollers inside.

Sometimes it`s caused by the surface u used, if the surface is light it will happen. Get yourself a darkish color mouse pad and your troubles will be over.
