I would get a really big one. But they come pre-formatted with the FAT32 format. I would insert the thing for the first time, then reformat it with the NTSF if you do not plan to use this on a MAC or other Non-Windows system. For Windows, NTSF is a better file system.

Search for EXTERNAL USB HARD DRIVE at http://www.newegg.com I would go with a Western Digital drive. If you have Windows XP, then get the biggest that you can afford. If you have Windows 2000, you might want to limit it to 120GB. There is a Windows patch for Windows 2000, so you can access larger drives, but the basic Windows 2000 is limited to 137GB.

You will see a 250GB Western Digital for $99.99 here:

It depends which country you are in?

In the U.K I would recommend going to P.C World - i got a Phillips 360GB USB storage external hard-drive which is the size of and video box for £109 a few months ago. They are always dropping the price and I found them to be the cheapest when looking around.

It is always good to go into a shop and look at the product because they are all different and it depends what you want and where it's going on or around your desk/computer.

DANUITTI's answer was also good - i learnt a few things i didn't know about formating!

Happy hunting!!

It depends on how big you want your external hard drive to be. It could be 40, 60, 80gb or even more. People like me who need a huge drive for my things, I bought a 160gb and I still feel it is not enough. If in singapore, you may want to go Funan Mall to get your drive.

Don't buy on ebay they are all fake. There are good makes but i'd just buy the largest and cheapest you can as a 4GB can be 400 quid.
