traditioon counts for a lot of things.

i wanted to change it to Explorers day, celebrating all the sacrifices that all explorers made in learning about this world (and it reduces the stigma of Columbus)

,yes the vikings found America before as did the Japanese...its just a silly holiday...and no Columbus did not get involved with the slave trade. But the way the slaves who were sold were already slaves...the African people thought nothing of trading in slaves as they invaded each others tribes and used the captives for their own farms...just the European traders paid more. They never left their ships the Africans brought the slaves to the ships...don't believe what you see on TV. The Muslin countries traded in slaves till the 1950's

i'm area Italian so i'm going to have fun Columbus day. curiously some persons are smarter than the apologetics of imperialism and human rights violations and re-named it Day of Indigenous Resistance. Why do not they call is sufferer DAY. The left could extremely like that.

Columbus brought only death and destruction to this hemisphere. He began the largest genocide in History the Carebs were completly wiped out, he even used biological warfare purposily giving small pox infested balnkets to Indian people. The sob was worse than Hitler, and no as I have said when this question has been asked about 4 times in the past week NO we should not honor that evil bastard

I dont celebrate Columbus Day and I think it should be abolished. Then again, if we really need to celebrate Columbus day we should also celebrate a "Hitler Day", he did pretty much the same thing.

Do you mean to say Columbus did not discover America?
Of course there is a merit in saying so! Did he know or hear anything about America before he embarked on his exploration?

I don't celebrate it but I can see why America still does.

Bank/Post Office holiday. Wouldn't you like an extra day off of work? I know I would.
