Wow - Yorkshire's a heck of a big place!
If you're anywhere near Bradford ring Pete Burns on 07761602911. He's well known and popular around the area, a brilliant professional musician, in touch with loadsa bands and is also a piano tuner by profession.
A chat with Pete will give you tons of contacts. Good luck!

Not the Yorkshire area, but commutably close, try www.prestone.co.uk for details of many impressive bands in the preston (lancs) area. I personally recommend Tin Gods. Good luck.

Ooo ooh Ooo ooh get hold of Chicken Legs Weaver (chickenlegsweaver.net) if you can - top stuff and Little Man Tate (littlemantate.co.uk) if poss though they might be a bit too 'big' now for a pub. Listen to Raw Talent on Thursday nights on Radio Sheffield for good info.

I have a mate who runs some great pub nights in Yorkshire and gets quite a few different good bands to play. Why not get in touch with him at http://www.myspace.com/strangerealitymusic. His name's Chris.

Have you tried checking out myspace? There are a ton of independent artists there who would love to get a gig. Not only couold you browse through local artists and listen to their music, but they also have music classifieds.

Try MySpace and filter according to location. There are tens of thousands of hopeful bands on there and some are bound to be local.

Put ads in the window of local record shops, or go to myspace.com and look for musicians/bands in your area. They usually have music players on their myspace page, so you'll be able to listen to them before contacting them.
Good luck!
