Yes its true me and my bestfriend use to get them together back in highschool. Basically it goes back to the old days when there were tribes and stuff. The periods would sychronize so that the women would start at the same time. that way they could stop traveling during this time while the men hunted, and then when all the women stopped they could continue their journey or whatever they did back in the pioneer days, Now ya Know!!!

Synchronous menstruation was first described in 1971 by researchers McClintock and Stern. It is a proven occurrence, borne out by additional studies. Though they are still unclear as to exactly why it occurs, the most widely accepted theory is that it is due to pheromones. Others think it's due to some evolutionary carry-over from prehistoric times, when it was common for men to take multiple mates to ensure the survival of the species, but the pheremone theory makes more sense...

Synchronous menstruation was first described in 1971 by researcher Marth McClintock, but has been common knowledge among women for centuries. It's not only found among families, but among women working together. McClintock told of seven female lifeguards who started out one summer with widely scattered periods. Three months later they were all menstruating within four days of one another.
A study of 135 residents of a women's college dorm confirmed the effect. Most of the cycle shifting occurred within the first four months and was usually complete after seven months. Fortunately for the dorm's plumbing, the whole building didn't synchronize, just roommates and close friends.
Later research has suggested that synchrony is caused by some sort of scent cue, or pheromone, coming from the underarm. The same body-odor cue from men apparently causes women living or working closely with men to have cycles that are shorter and more regular.
One published theory about how this works treats it as an evolutionary holdover from prehistoric times, when it was common for men to take multiple mates and efficient reproduction was essential to the survival of the species. The author of this theory assumes that women in their brief monthly phase of peak fertility give off some pheromonic signal that drives men wild.
If his wives are on different cycles, hubby has a good chance of picking the wrong one when his nose tells him it's time to go into action, thus wasting precious bodily fluids. But if the women are all menstrually synchronized, he CAN'T pick wrong--they're all fertile. In short, synchronous menstruation compensates for congenital male cluelessness about women's bodies.

Not sure how it works but it is true. My mother, two sisters and me all had the same cycle. My poor dad and brothers stayed outside away from the house during that time. Even now that we're living away from each other we have overlapping cycles. After I married my sister-in-law and I spent a lot of time together and now she also cycles the same as us.

This is true. I have had irregular periods my entire life EXCEPT when i lived in a dorm with other females. My periods suddenly became regular and our cycles for the most part where in sync to one another. Once i moved back home my cycle became wacko again and have been that way for the last few years.

It has been published and I've seen it many times.
It not only happens with women living together, but it happens when women are together for long times.
The dominate female, (read Leader) , establishes the cycle, all others coincide.
Been there, experienced that.

The theory is based on pheromones, but I don't think that is accurate. I grew up in a home with my mother and two sisters. Our cycles were never in sync. Also, it never happened in basic training either.
