I think it's an indescribable something that makes it universal in that people understand it on a level beyond reasoning....something deeper and more primal

I can tell a great poem or poet by the goosebumps and my desire to stalk them after reading their stuff... If they tickle me from head to toe, make me violently angry, fall deep in the much of love, disgust me, or totally freak me out... start a riot! THAT... makes a great poet and that poet makes a great poem. A Libertine, a rogue, a dashing attenuated beautiful soul-drawn piece of art. I love them one and all! To me, they are my ROCK STAR, My Childhood crush, my first lover and everything good this rotton world has to offer!

I judge a good poem, by my desire or need to actually read it more than just once. If it survives my very short attention span... it has to be good, or interesting in the least.

I judge a bad poem or poet. By the persons or the poems inability to incite or excite anything within me at all. Over rhymed just because they assumed it should be, stuffed into a preconceived mold of pretense and the usual shiny happy Sunshine bull crap everyone (for some strange reason) believes is so necessary?

Some people actually consider Helen Steiner Rice to be a great Poet. I prefer Baudelaire's and His Satanic Majesty; George Gordon The Lord Byron.

it just amazes me that a couple of lines or stanzas can be filled with so much meaning and emotions. and if you really connect with it, it hits you deeper than you can imagine
