Little Lad has a good start. Once you snap off the stem (leaf) put it on a window sill for a couple of days for the broken end to start to dry/callus. Then you can put it in moist seeding mix. If you put it in without drying you're more likely to get diseases. Same with planting medium. Seed starter mix is sterile (for most companies products) so again there is less chance of disease. Once in you should be in good shape.

Do not overwater. Remember it doesn't have roots yet so watering is unneeded except to keep the mix slightly moisr.

hun...you ca't take a 'cutting of aloe'....if you have a look inside the growing pot you should noticed some 'baby starters' growing too....just take out the new babies and transplant them.....aloe likes a very sandy soil.

TAKE THE CUTTING FROM THE MIDDLE AS THE BIGGER LEAVES TEND TO DIE, IV GOT FIVE IN MY HOUSE AND MY MUM GOT ANOTHER THREE THIS YEAR JST OFF ONE PLANT, AND ITS GOOD FOR BURNS AND DRY SKIN

break it off as close to the bottom as you can and plant it in very moist soil.
