Toughest, or best? THey're not the same thing. For example, the toughest boxer I've seen was Chuvalo, but he clearly wasn't as good as Ali.

Laraque is probably near the top right now, in the NHL. I don't think many people can beat Chara. Chara's not much of a striker (well, not one of the best anyway), but he's just got so much size and he does have grappling skill, so he's hard to beat.

mm well i personally think donald brashear is the toughest fighter ive seen in the NHL.
im also upset they traded him from the flyers to the washington capitals but stuff happens i guess

Rob Ray was one of my favorites... He was 50/50 whether he'd win or lose, but he'd be there when the gloves were dropped.
