No question about it. One big reason that we need the fair tax and term limits.

I'm afraid I have to say yes. The politicians have already been corrupted by the corporations, lobbyists, and special interest groups and turned their backs on the voters who put them in office in the first place! Bad idea on their count! All of that will come back to bite them on Election Day before all of this is said and done! Now you already know about the Jack Abhramoff scandal. Any politician who has dealt with him in the past are either in trouble or facing it. Do you see what I'm saying here? Good!

This is correct. The notion that government policy is determined by the will of the voting public is frankly absurd. Say, for example, i represent Enron, i put $38 million into the republican election fund. I am not putting this money in because i can get a round of golf three times a year with the President. No, i want some changes in policy made that are impeding my companies ability to make more profit for it`s shareholders, who are breathing down my neck for a greater return. The propaganda campaign then kicks in, you are informed by the media that this change in policy will benefit the people( it won`t), Hey presto, Enron has what it wants. Simple really.

Yes.

The people we elect to represent us report first and foremost to the political party to which they belong. Those parties have ties to the lobbyists, special interests and corporations who make donations to the national party committees.

The next priority for politicians is paying back people/corporations who supported their personal campaign.

The third priority is appeasing their constituents.

Or we are fourth and their third priority is serving their own selfish needs. But I don't want to sound too cynical.

(Note: there are a few exceptions, but they are rare.)

No. They act of their own behalf. It's just that doing what special interests want is very rewarding, both financially and politically.

The time to be wary of any politician is when you hear one of these phrases:
"...For the children..."
"...For the people..."

The do-gooders are the worst of the lot. Their crusades to save you from yourself always end up with you losing more freedom.

Basically its true, big corporates can buy a president into power,eg!..One G.W. Bush..He was quite literaly put there by the US military industrial complex and the American "righteous right" to do what he was told!..And he has!..Americans are loosing, by stealth many of their civil rights, as we are here in Australia, Notice increasing censorship of the internet under the guise of "Its full of "Perverts and deviates"..But are they finding the "preverts and deevaments!..NO..Almost all the censorship has been political..Check it out!..remember the 'Golden Rule!'..."He who has the gold..makes the rules!"...Think about it!..

No. If they ignored the people they couldn't get elected. Corporations and lobbyists don't vote. If they wanted something so contrary to the people, the politician would lose.

As a Union Member whose Union Bosses give millions and millions of our union money to the Democrats, I would say the Democrats take care of our Union Bosses, and couldn't care less about us or the American people.
The Democrat Party and our Union Bosses just take care of each other.
Neither one gives a dam bout us Rank & File.
It's our union dues that goes to the Democrats.

I think they act on BOTH.. but sadly the corporations and lobbyists have cash and benefits that "we the people" don't have...

It's amusing that Congress will pay lip-service to campaign and lobby reform, but haven't seemed to actually getting AROUND to it !!

Perhaps someday "we the people" will get annoyed and outraged enough to force them into it... or force them out... OR simply rise in revolution...

Most do. Few last longer than one term before falling prey to greed. Special interest lobbeys usually represent a large group of citizens, hence my NRA membership.
