One expects a politician to be of above average intelligence. Since most Americans fall into average and below average intelligence--we all can't be above average intelligence--it must follow that politicians must believe the majority of people are less intelligent than they are. The question should be, are these smart politicians benevolent or not. That should be easy enough for even the least intelligent person to determine.

The sad fact of it is that the politicains are correct. The American public IS stupid with a very short memory span. Otherwise how can anyone explain why most politicians are re-elected ?? 2 term limitation should be in place. If a Senator or Congressman cant get his agenda across in that time span then he/she don't need any extra time. Otherwise they become part of the institution and are out for themselves.

Politicians attempt to speak to their audience. Given that there has been little in the way of a response to 6 years of Bush, it is small wonder politicians think little of Americans. From "hanging chads" to 9/11 to The Patriot Act to The Search for Osama to the invasion and occupation of Iraq to the 2004 election to ignoring the Geneva Convention and torturing prisoners of war to calling opponents in debate appeasers of terrorists, etc., etc., etc.; what are the politicians to think? We just continue to go to games and on vacation while all this is going on. Personally, I think they have concluded that we are all asleep and they just don't want to wake us.

No, Politicians believe that there are a lot of Americans who are just eeking by intellectionally so they lower the curve to make sure their message is clear. They figure intelligent Americans will figure it out on their own.

Yes, and we keep proving them right by not voting out incumbents that don't work for legal Americans. We voted Bush in as the moral party. How did that work out?
