I have worked with my husband when we did mortgages. That went very well. I am working for a friend who owns a small business and it seems everything has changed. I feel I must decide to be a friend or an employee, not both. Does it need to be that way? Also, I am not a difficult or unreasonable person. Easy to get along with. Thanks for your advice.

It is a bad idea, I recommend seek other employment before something happens and the friendship can not be salvaged.

I found when working for my friend that he ended up expecting me to go over and above the expectations he had for his other employees (ie. calling me almost everytime I had a day off to cover for one of the other employees who were sick, or asking me to do the jobs no one else wanted to do etc.) I would feel obligated to do so or would get a guilt trip if I refused. Ultimately I ended up feeling underappreciated and overworked, so I decided to discuss it with him. He disagreed with my views so I eventually gave him my notice. I wish I could say it worked out better, cuz I really liked the job and my co-workers, I just couldn't handle feeling used. We are still friends, but I doubt I will ever work for a friend again.
