It is similar to asking that should I become Pilot if I have a passion for flying but dont know how to control an airplane?
Well the answer is simple..if you have the passion for accomplishing a task but do not posses sufficient skills for the same you should not abandon your dream. Simple reason being that Passion cannot be developed it comes from within.
Whereas skill cannot only be developed but sharpened also by regular practise. So practise on swimming and you might turn out to be the best marine biologist ever.

Go for it. You don't have to swim like a fish to work with them. Maybe you should learn to scuba. No breath holding there. As long as you're not 'afraid' of the water, then follow your passion.

Whenever I've seen marine biologists on TV, they are on a boat or their office or explaining the underwater camera. They've never held their breath.
