Forget about the drums and concentrate on the singing/guitar bit. Start the band and see how it goes, it will probably come to nothing bout at least you'll have good times and a few stories for the grandchildren.
The most important thing is to have loads of fun..that's what it's all about.
And your mom...well....rebellion is part of the music thing. It would be boring otherwise.
