I went to the optometrist and got a trial pair of contacts and a tutorial for putting them on - what is the next step?

You buy your contacts at the opticions. There are a number of varieties and it depends on your personal choice of using them on. A lot of people would rather take them off in the night and put them on again. There are those for who would like them on 24 hours ( though its not recommended )x365. Then again there are soft, semi hard and hard contacts. The soft lenses are not really ment to be used 24 hours a day and have a very limited time span. The other two have a longer life span but the hard one can create some problems. You can even buy colored lenses in the soft variety requesting for the power that you are using; and finally there are the monthly diposable ones .
I for one use use the soft colored ones. They are extremely comfortable and I have got them in various colors!

I wore contact lenses from age 11 (which was unusual because it was very new way back then) however I was pushy. I'm 44 years old now. Time and technical ability has changed a lot since then.

If you are under 18 or have not had longterm stable vision for long...keep going with the lenses. I'd only ever recommend soft lenses (never hard as they feel like a gunshot wound to the eye if you ever get anything under them). The longterm wearing items are better financially as the throw away kind add up to huge money in the longterm.

If you are eligible for Lasik...get that done instead...because contact lenses cause other problems..it internalises you...makes you hermit like...because you cant see without help/chemicals/work.

I am sure the doc prescribed the ones most suited for your needs. I personally wear hard lenses, which is not very popluar, but they're the only things that work for me...if you like what you've got and can see well, buy those from your doc office.
