maybe because gay friends are more open-minded or something, like, they've had to be honest about their sexual orientation and been almost punished for it. so maybe they understand people sometimes want and need an honest answer and they're not too bothered about hurting people's feelings because they've had prejudice themselves? just my opinion

Because your gay friends have their own close circle of gay friends that you're probably not a part of. Of course they care about you, but there is no significant fear of loss should you react poorly and walk away. As a result they less likely to sugar-coat.

Because they know that they are not going to lose a chance with you, becuase they are gay, so there is nothing to be affraid of when a gay-guy, for example, tell the girl how she looks as oposed to a normal guy.
