When you are wearing a leotard and a tights you do not need to where any underwear. If you look on the tights there is a special little piece of extra cloth that is there so you don't have to wear underwear. Plus when you are wearing underwear it sticks out of the leotard or you have lines. It is just tacky. If you were in a professional school they would forbit you to even wear underwear.

Another option is to purchase a changing leotard- this is skin coloured and can be worn under everthing (similar to how you wear a swimsuit.) If your of slender build, this usually provides you with enough support to not need a bra. Also, it will follow the same lines as your outer leotard, so you won't have strange lines.

For practise, it's really a matter of personal choice. For performance, many dancers wear just tights (more than one pair, if you are uncomfortable). If you opt to go this route, make sure they are breatheable dance tights- this will help prevent discomfort. If you chose to wear underwear for a performance, I'd suggest wearing a thong, purchasing ultra-smooth underwear (then are of a thinner fabric, and are sold in most stores) or wearing more than one pair of tights to cover any odd lines.

I would just like to point out that you may be male and therefore MUST wear a jock strap. Otherwise the choice is yours but stear clear from Bridget Jones granny pants as these are not attracive under a leotard. If the leotard doesnt support your chest then a decent sports bra is also a must.

At the dance studio where my girls study dance the little girls, ages 3-10 usually wear undies...high thigh style. The "big" girls usually wear either nothing under tights and leo or wear an "under leo" that is nude colored with invisible straps. You can get them at any good dance shop for around $20...they are really great for under costumes!

Our ballet teacher used to forbid us to wear underwear but i thibk she was just odd. But whatever you feel comfortable with, i'm sure there must be knickers that don't show up through the leotad.

i don't know what your leotard is like, but mine would revela too much now that i am older than about 8, so I would say to wear a thong or seamless knickers, just to cover up the front...

I think a thong is okay, and if you get a good one you dont get any odd lines, plus find a leotard with hidden support, then you wont need a bra... i think bra's create a horrible line but thats just me.... its about what your comfortable with

You can wear bra under leotard, personally leotards don't have enough support for me, but you don't need to wear knickers.
