The scariest book I have ever read (just because of the implications behind it, and not really the SCARINESS of the story at all) is Pet Sematary by Stephen King.

The book is probably as old as you are, but the IDEA behind it still gives me the willies today. Blood and gore are incidental. This book screws with your MIND!

IT - by Stephen King is probably one of the scariest books ever written - I had to stop reading it because I got so freaked out!!!!!

Ghost Story - by Peter Straub

The Haunting of Hill House - Shirley Jackson

The Exorcist - by Peter Blatty

The Shining - by Stephen King

Turn of the Screw - by Henry James

Burnt Offerings - by Robert Marasco

The Other - Thomas Tyron

Try reading H. P. Lovecraft - he inspired many of our modern day horror fiction writers.

Hopefully there were some books on here that you haven't read that will give you a good spine tingling scare!!!!:)

The scariest book I ever read was In the Dark by Richard Laymon. It literally kept me up all night. I had to keep reading to a not so scary part before turning out the light and then I had to carry on reading to see what happened next!!!

"The Regulators" by Richard Bachman (Stephen kings alter ego) is a really creepy book, i'd highly recommend it, i've read it a few times and it has me hooked from start to finish, sounds like you are hard to scare though so I doubt you will be peeing in your pants or anything like that but it is still worth a read if you haven't read it already, i'm sure that you've already read the majority of Stephen Kings novels but you may have missed this one. Hope that helps.

The works of H.P Lovecraft, he is the father of modern horror. Also the works of Edgar Allen Poe. The book "Onyx and Crake" by Marget Atwood, truly horrifying. The true crime novel "Helter Skelter" about the Manson family murders. "The best Democracy money can buy" by Greg Palast.
Scary stuff enjoy
