Gene for the beta chain of globin gets mutated so that instead of glutamic acid valine is substituted in the 7 th place from N terminal end.This is called point mutation.This is due to substitution of one nitrogenous base in the globin gene with another in such a manner that the m RNA has a triplet for valine instead of glutamic acid.
