It kind of depends on what you're looking for. If you're looking for the value of your house as assessed by the county, call the county offices and they'll be glad to help.

If you're looking for a guess at the fair market value of your house, well, that's a little harder to come by, as there is no official figure. Basically, look at real estate listings for houses that are similar to yours in your school district, and preferably your zip code, and see what they're going for. Your county office will have a list of all properties that are sold, so head down there and see what's been sold in the past few months. This is basically what a real estate agent would do, though they'd have easier access to the information, as it's what they do for a living.

Usually a good RE agent is the best answer. Most of the internet sites will give an average for your area...but that is often not accurate.

RE agents that work your neighborhood are well versed in the various values of each particular model / builder and can more accurately assess this.

Most Estate Agents will give you a free valuation because they want your business. Ideally get at least 3 different agents to value it to get a realistic answer and bear in mind that they are likely to slightly over-value to get you to sell through them rather than someone else.

An Estate Agent will value it for free.

Depending on how long ago you bought it you could go on the Yahoo! Price Centre section on Yahoo property:

http://uk.houseprices.yahoo.net/

If you type in your postcode, street name or town, it will give the selling price for all the houses in that location, but you cannot see anything more recent than mid-2005

You could try putting your postcode into upmystreet.co.uk. There is an option to see what properties in your postcode have been sold for recently. Could be useful if there are a number of similar properties in your area.

Or put your postcode into Rightmove.co.uk to see what's being advertised in your area and at what price.
