He's not even a month old. He should still be suckling from his mother. Don't give him cereal.

Ok look here. I have a one year old baby. and he is a big boy for his age. Alot ot the time he wasnt getting full with his bottles and the doctor said that i could thicken it up a bit by adding some cereal and sad to sat that still didnt work and then without asking a doctor when i should of i put him on baby food. And he loved it i think that it depends on the doctor or how well you want to listen then when i did ask the doctor about the food he said that he should eat that when he is 1months old well i wasnt going to let him starve. I guess the answer would be if you dont want your grand son to starve go ahead and feed him. But what i do know is that the doctors do not want you to put cereal in a bottle cuz its a chocking hazard. hope this was helpful

While I doubt that it will actually hurt him it will not help him in any way either. His immature digestive system is not ready for cereal at this point in his life and it will pretty much just make the trip through his system without being absorbed.
The old wives tale that this will make him sleep longer between feeding is just that, an old wives tale. There is no truth to it.
I would never put cereal in a 3 week old infants bottle but as I said I don't think it will actually hurt him. It will just make his digestive system work harder.
Again, when in doubt ask his pediatrician.
Good luck.

Reccomendations by Health Visitors and Nutritionists are saying that starting to wean a baby before 6 months can cause gut disorders in later life........................I think 3 weeks is much too young, my grandson is 10 weeks and feeds every 2 and a half to three hourly - enough to satisfy! Could this be the reason why so many people have IBS these days? We were encouraged to put cereal in bottles 30 years ago as soon as we thought baby needed it!

Please don't do that!!!
WHAT and WHY would you want to do this?
There is no reason to give them ANYTHING until they are at least 6 months old!!!!
.........they are waaaaaay too early for it.
American and Canadian Pediatric Society recommends that you do not feed your babies till at least 6 months old......
they don't have the digestive system matured yet to take food.
You will just give them upset stomachs and gas or allergies!

You will have a TON of opportunity to feed your child.....you have to feed this child for the rest of your life remember???/
so why the rush?
I don't know why people are all rushing to feed their babies at 2 and 3 months old......

Age: Birth to 4 months------------
Feeding behavior
• Rooting reflex helps your baby turn toward a nipple to find nourishment
What to feed
• Breast milk or formula ONLY •
Your baby's digestive tract is still developing, which is why solid food is off limits for now.

From 4-6 months------------
Signs of readiness for solid food
Your baby probably won't do all these things — they're just clues to watch for.
• Can hold head up
• Sits well in highchair
• Makes chewing motions
• Shows significant weight gain (birth weight has doubled)
• Shows interest in food
• Can close mouth around a spoon
• Can move food from front to back of mouth
• Can move tongue back and forth, but is losing tendency to push food out with tongue
• Seems hungry after 8 to 10 feedings of breast milk or 40 oz. of formula in a day
• Is teething
What to feed
• Breast milk or formula, PLUS
• Semi-liquid iron-fortified rice cereal, THEN
• Other grain cereals like oats or barley

Yes. Do what his pediatrician says. At such a young age, this could upset his digestive system terribly. At this point, he should be having nothing but breastmilk or formula. Are you asking this so he'll "sleep better"? If so, you are incredibly selfish. Your daughter/son need to buck up and take responsibility. We ALL lose sleep with a newborn--it's part of life. If they were so concerned about their "beauty sleep" maybe they should have thought longer and harder about having children.

I'm sorry if this seems harsh, but it just saddens me to see people ask this question. A young infant such as this one is SUPPOSED to be up several times per night to eat and have a clean diaper put on. Do you want your grandson to become weak and not thrive and grow??

Some doctors recommend it, some don't. I started giving my son a little bit of cereal in his bottle at night when he was about 2 months old. So ask the doctor if you want to make sure that way you can feel good about your decision.

You already heard this in a lot of these answers, but I'm going to echo them -- it's not a good idea to feed a 3-week-old cereal, even a small amount.

If the reason behind it is that he still seems hungry, just feed him bottles more often. It's a myth that cereal helps babies sleep longer.

Pediatricians recommend that you wait until the baby is approx 4 months old before giving them cereal. They also recommend that when you do give it to them, you do not give it in a bottle. Some people like to try to use cereal to "fill a baby up" quicker and for longer. That is not good for a baby because a baby is meant to have a certain amount of nutrition given to them in a 24-hour period. If they're fuller for longer, they might not take enough of the nutrition that the bottle offers.

I would ask the pediatrician first but pediatricians generally don't recommend giving cereal before at least 4 months. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends not giving any baby food before 6 months. At 3 weeks the baby's digestive system probably can't handle any baby food. I'd hold off on that.

Will not hurt him, but he is way, way too young for cereal in his bottle. That is something you don't start until he is 4 month. You could cause a allergic reaction and make him really sick. Why would you want to give cereal already.
