Thank you daka!!! I'm an american, and I really appreciate your honesty... It is true that many countries have a few people who find themselves better than others... But those few do not make everyone in every country cockey!!!
I wish you a very happy and healthy life!

I am American.
I'm 38.
I was not alive during WWII but my g-father fought and died in france.
I know the anti american sentiment is very high around the world, but I firmly believe that if not for the Americans, all of Europe would have been "Heiling Hitler" because he came VERY close to defeating England, and he whupped everybody else, except the russians.
And I think MANY people have forgotten that.
But, we as americans are a spoiled and gluttoneous nation and we have so much excess and I think it creates jealousy. That, coupled with the fact that we lord our nuclear powers over the rest of the world and have this "do as I say and not as I do" attitude that just p*sses people off.
This is still the greatest on the earth and I am damn proud to be an american, but I am ashamed of our government and president.

I'm an Anglo-American. I was born & raised in Leicestershire, spent 30 years there.
I have spent the last 13 years in the USA (Phoenix, Arizona).
Most times, people are just people. I went to the 2000 Olympics & found Australians to fit somewhere between Americans & Brits.
But I've found lots of decent people in places like Belize & even in the Muslim Berbers of the High Atlas Mountains of Morroco. Most of the negative images of any race is generally based on stereotypes.
People ARE different. But that doesn't make shtem better OR worse - just different. If everyone tries to be non-judgemental, they may find even New Yorkers are decent people ;-)

I think most of the Americans are very caring, polite and have manners. You speak to most Americans including the youngsters and when spoken to they are so polite, it's Hi Sir or Hi Maam. Ok there are the loud mouthed ones, but you tell me a country where there isn't any loud mouthed??
Since June this year I have made 3 good freinds and they come from USA, I am disabled with multiple disabilities including a brain haemorrhage, 16 mini strokes, kidney failure, the list goes on and on, yet I haven't a single friend in the UK where I live, OK it may be my fault as I don't smoke or drink or go out to pubs etc.
I find thast the Americans were very caring towards me re my disabilities. I am not saying people don't care in the UK, but we are talking about our friends in the USA.

I'm happy to call anyone and everyone "friend". I don't dislike people because they are American or Brit; male or female; black, white, purple or green. I dislike people because they are mean, dishonest, disrepectful, etc. There are people like that in every country, color, race and religion. The good part is there are also really nice, honest, respectful people in all walks of life too (you just don't hear about them as much because they don't make good TV). And thank you! I am American and I appreciate the cudos! I love the Brits! You guys rock!

Our reputation is not deserved. We are refined, as you are and keep our emotions in check. Giving us the appearance of being arrogant. We're a proud people, as you are. We try to reason first, then kick butt! lol Most of us are middle class families, not unlike folks around the world. There will always be those who believe they have the right to kill anyone who doesn't agree with their religion or way of life. If they had 1/2 a brain, they'd see that the majority of the world doesn't think like that. DA!

Thank you, Daka! As an American, I have visited the UK and found the same thing - really nice, smart, friendly people! I wish all people could move past stereotypes and find out for themselves what kind of people live in other countries.

I sometimes get angry at Americans for electing an incompetent, ignorant and belligerent president, that thinks diplomacy is something you pick up after graduating university. But I remind myself that more than half the population didn't vote for him (or didn't vote) but have to live under him. Most Americans I've met are easy to get on with. In conversation just stay away from politics and religions and it's easy to get on with them and anyone.

Here here three cheers for Britan. I am so tired of being stereotyped by other countries. I have heard that the french are arrogant the British stuffy and so on. I have always just chalked that up to someone's elses thinking. Any Brit's I have had the pleasure to meet were friendly and had great senses of humor. Thanks for the comment I appreciate your open thought.

I am an american who recently visited England. Alot of people seemed really nice toward us, but other's weren't so nice. Thanks for not sterotyping us or hating us! We're people too... just born in a different country. The past grudges should be left int he past and if people hate us because our president... guess what? half the American's hate our president.
