If you mean for the very first time then usually you get a little ill feeling. Just a little off colour but you don't feel so good. Then you will get cramping feelings in your tummy that feel better when you put a hot water bottle on it. If you mean just generally then I usually get the cramping feeling followed by a really bad temper aimed at everyone, a craving for chocolate and tender boobs.

I look at the little pocketbook calendar I keep for that purpose, see when I circled the first day of my last period, and (for me) count 26. For most women periods happen every 28 to 30 days.

Until you are past 40 this should be a very reliable method of keeping track.

I'm currently on the pill, so I just know because of the routine I've now got.

However, some women experience vaginal discharge - usually, a week before she is going to start, her discharge gets a little thicker, a little more than usual as she is ovulating.

Other things like PMS (Pre Menstrual Stress) will make her more emotionally sensitive.

Some people I know start wanting more foods like chocolate just before their period is due.

Kids Health.org is FANTASTIC for this sort of thing: they're written for kids but so simply, I think adults can benefit, too. :)

Lets see, first I get cramps in my lower belly and in my hips, my breasts are tender, my mood swings drastically, I cry over everything (literally) and I can't have a bowel movement and let's not forget the bloating to the point I can't fit into any of my pants. Now that I wrote this down and can read it myself, I can't wait for menopause to finally come. LOL. Thank god I'm 1/2 way there.

If you are over ten years of old and you see your first period, you will see it every 28 days or 30 days, denpends on how healthy you are.
This means you are ready to produce a child too, so make sure not to have sex unless you are ready to have children. It takes a scond to be pregnant.
