No, not the roast that you cook.

My company is having a "roast" for a co-worker, like a party, I guess. What exactly does it mean to have a "roast"?

A roast is a tribute. What will probably happen is co-workers of the "roastee" will take turns standing up to crack jokes and recall funny past events about him/her. When the co-workers are done taking their turns, the roastee gets a chance to get up and get even using humor. All in good fun.

you have never seen like the roast of pamula anderson? well its just a buch of people (Friends) get together and make jokes about the person being roasted. kinda make fun of then in a funny friendly kind of way. think about this person and try to remember some of the funny things they have done or stupid things or embarrassing things and get some good jokes or comments ready to throw out there good luck i bet having on of those would be fun

Can be fun, can get nasty.

You are publicly roasting them. Pulling out all the bad stories, remembering all the embarrassing, appalling things they have done, usually also has an element of phrase and affirmation but generally poking fun at them or if your from Australia taking the mickey out of them.

Usually a Hog roast. Like a big Bar-B-Q, but with a Pig on a spit over an open fire.

It is where you have a party to respect someone for what they have done by insulting them, in a good way.
