cover letters are ment to tell the employer what position you are replying too. like if you saw the ad in the news paper mention that ex:

i am repling to the position in the paper for the legal secertary.

now if the ad asked for specific qualifications mention them qualifications and how they apply to you

i have 3 years experience in secertary work. i have experience in word, excel, access, and powerpoint.

and whatever else they ask for if you have a degree specify that. in closing say:

i believe i would be a good addition to your company. please contact me at your earliest convience to set up an interview. i look forward to hearing from you.

don't forget to put your contact info in there. alot depends on the cover letter. there is specific ways to draft a cover letter. if your cover letter is sloppy the employer won't even look at your resume. so good luck!

A cover letter is a brief introduction of yourself to the employer. A lot of people don't even read them, but you never know. Keep it short, polite AND grammatical!!! You never know. Your resume is really what it's all about, but a poor cover letter can really hurt you, while a good one won't do much. I've done as little as

Sirs:
Enclosed is my resume. Thank you for your attention.

Got the job, too!

Your Resume/CV is, in detail, your education, your work experience, and a little bit about yourself.

A cover letter should state:

a) which job you are applying for
b) what your key skills are in about 1 or 2 sentances
c) show them you're a polite person! (Thank you, I appreciate your time etc etc)

Good luck. :)

It should be short and brief. You basically state the job you are applying for and the reason why. Write a bit about your current job, if any, and end it with when you are available and how soon can you start...

i.e. Should you wish to contact me, I am available Mon - Fri at 123 4567.

i.e. I cant start working at your institution this November.

Good Luck :D
