Because we won't see the full range of his magic.

just a thought if you have read all the harry potter books then you know the spell used to kill him doesn't act as it did. and you also know that snape is a master at silent spells. also Dumbledore`s bird flew from the burial pyre their are 2 reasons i can think of 1 Dumbledore became his bird and as you said we don't know Dumbledores full powers. or his bird was carrying him

Yes, it was a shame that Dumbledore was killed. I thought it was very sad, but essential for Harry to realize that he had to go after Voldemort without Sirius or Dumbledore to do battle for him. Ron and Hermione will help him find and destroy the remaining Horcruxes, but now he knows he has to face Voldemort alone.

I had always hoped to see more of Dumbledore's powers too. We got a nice little preview during his duel with Voldemort in Order of the Phoenix, but I wanted to see much more of them during the second Wizard War. After reading the information on his Chocolate Frog card in Sorcerer's Stone, "Dumbledore is particularly famous for his defeat of the dark wizard Grindelwald in 1945" I've wondered if we'd ever get to find out more about their battle. I'll be very surprised if we don't see more of Dumbledore in Book 7, either giving advice from one of his portraits or via a memory in the pensieve.

I was very disappointed. Sorry to say, though, that he's dead. For good. It's been confirmed by JKR herself. He might visit Harry via pictures (headmaster's office) but he's not coming back at Dumbledore most powerful wizard ever. Sorry guys. It's a done deal.

dumbledore's magic isn't all gone yet. just a feeling i have. if the spell he cast on petunia's house to make it safe for harry is still there...
am i disappointed? no. but if anyone would want to hunt snape down and torture him with the crucio curse until he resembles neville's parents, i'm all for that. let me know when and where.
(yes, i am aware that i take this all too seriously. i'm in counseling.)
also, am i the only one who thinks crookshanks is really dumbledore's brother?

I don't think that Dumbledor is gone for good...his magic was too powerful, I think he'll return in some way...perhaps not in person, but I think his influence will be felt.

Also, JK Rowling as referenced so many classic tropes in literature, especially myth-based lit, that I'd be surprised if he didn't come back a la Gandolf.

I'm so sad :( But it was somewhat predictable seeing as it went on a whole Lord of the Rings copyish thing... But i think Dumbledore's still alive... same with Sirus, seeing as the mirror was still left behind for harry to talk with him.

I do not cry very often. I never cry about books. I was sobbing for DAYS on end and my eyes were all puffy and red...it was horrible.

But, I am sure JK had good reason to. I believe DD was a horcrux, and he knew, and Snape knew, so he killed him, as a favor to Harry.

But that's just me.

"I can teach you how to bottle fame, brew glory, even stopper death..." - Severus Snape, Philosoper's(Sorceror's) Stone

So potions exist which can block death.

"I will only truly have left the school when none here are loyal to me." - Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore, Chamber of Secrets

From these two statements we can see that Dumbledore probably isnt really gone. In the worst case, his portrait is there in his office anyways.

It was completley prodictable. Killing of Dumbledore was probably essentail to the plot of the 7th book or else JK Rowling probably wouldn't have killed him off.

Yeah, I was so disappointed and sad, even though he died already we'll still see him in book 7th!
