Think about the job and what kind of person they would probably be looking for. I was doing some interviews this week and asked this question.

We got:
Well, I was born in XXX and when I was seven I did this, and when I was nine I did that, and when I was nine and a half.....
- no thanks - we only have 20 minutes and we have more questions!

We also had:
I'm chatty, popular and have lots of friends
- this seems like a nice thing to say, but if you were the boss would you want to have someone who talks and emails their friends all the time? I would look for someone with personality, but if its the first questions we ask, you need to think of something more important to us.

We also had:
Well whaddya wanna know...
- this is a pretty lazy answer (to be honest, its a lazy question) and misses an opportunity for you to open your account by saying something positive about yourself.

A model answer might be:
My name is 'Fred', I am currently employed as an underwater hanglider/husky driver/spy, and I'm really interested in this job because....

Whatever the question, try to be:
concise (but talk in whole sentences rather than giving yes/no answers)
to the point (listen to the question carefully)
positive - this is a chance for you to sell yourself not be the first in the queue to put the boot in!

Go in there with enthusiasm and hopefully you'll win them over.

Good luck!

Are you talking about an employer or a prospective employer? If the answer is an employer, then presumably he is trying to find out about your interests, hobbies, home background, just to be friendly. I would answer him naturally, just giving him the bare bones, so that if he really is interested he can always follow up with questions.

If the answer is a prospective employer at interview, then I would be more inclined to paint a picture of the course my life has taken so far and of how the job for which I am being interviewed fits into that pattern. I would also mention outside interests to show that I was a well rounded person and perhaps highlight any activities in which I had distinguished myself in any way. For instance, you could mention any musical or sporting achievements, particularly ones which reveal you as the thing they are all after - a team player.

irst off you wold tell them your qualities that fits the job such as, if its a secertary job you would mention your wpm and all you have experience in like word excell etc.... you Always want to mention your advantages. you may say them more then once with other questions being asked. you would also add in that your dependable, reliable, hard worker and mention you are a team player i know it sounds gay but employers like to know that you are a people person. don't lie about anything be honest. if your nervous tell him. they like to know your an honest person. its ok to be nervous. that is the easy question. now waat are your advantages and disadvantages thats a hard on you have to know what to say on that one lol but i usually just says want comes most of the time. but i haven' t been on an interview in a while. good luck.

When someone asks for you tell them a "little" about yourself, that is just what they want, a little.. Not about your goals, and what you would bring to the company, but about YOU...

So for me I would make it short and to the point, I am married, and have 1 child, I love dogs, and photography and the outdoors.

That in my opinion is plenty...

The clue is 'yourself'. Not work, not bull about being diligent and the best person for the job.
I love dogs, taking them for walks, I have an active social life and my hobby is creative writing.
How's that?
Adjust which does not apply.

I say things like where I was born and raised and say a little bit about my family. I tell them about my hobbies, interests and any skills I have, recognised or not. Also tell them about the qualities you have, such as if you're punctual, honest, reliable... they always like to hear things like that!

Well, as it is a formal thing probably in an interview, I would tell him the stuff about myself that fits the job. It is always good to mention hobbies, as this looks like you are interested in things.

I would discuss my career goals as they are related to the job.

This also depends on if you are already an employee or a potential employee.

Just make sure you are honest. Lies just lead to lies. Eventually you reach a point when you can't lie anymore!
