hi,

this is possible depending on what type of virus is in the mail and the intelligence of the hacker. if you have an appropriate anti-virus program you can prevent things like that. Kaspersky internet securit suite is great because it protects you from every type of attack, especially your area of concern - web and email attachments.

the attachment once opened may only need to be opened for it to auto download to your computer and install some sort of key logger for example and detect keys entered and send out this info across the internet. again Kaspersky is best for this kind of attack as it protects by monitoring all incoming, outgoing traffic and each and every process executed on your computer so u can control exactly what is sent and run.

hope it helps. take care.x

The are applications called "keyloggers" that capture the keys that you type on your keyboard. If you receive an email and install such application, then yes, someone could obtain quite easily your password or any other information that you type on your keyboard (credit card number, etc.).

These applications then send the data to some computer somewhere on the Internet.
