That is actually not a hieroglyph it is a free mason sign....some might say an Illuminati signal.
You can go with the Stargate factor and say it means Earth, but really, it belongs in the free masons, for which most is not all of America's founding fathers were a part of and decided to use that symbol on US money.

1. There is a devine being watching over those who construct the pyramid.
2. The eye is at the top of the pyramid indicating that construction is still not complete and is an ongoing, continuing venture.
