Yes you can be best in whatever you do. For that a person required a good experience, good temperament, vast knowledge about whatever subjects he handle or do, a good sense of humor and very punctual & dicipline in his all doings.
1.Experience- Never answer or jump into conclusions quickly without confirming you are right and 100% satisfactory,
2.Good Temperamant - Patience is the key to control your mind and actions, if not sure think twice or drop yourself before start.
3.Vast knowledge - Before starting must ensure you are through with what ever you do.
4.Punctuality and Dicipline -Without both terms nothing called as "best ".

I have answered the other "q?" of yours, here is the answer to this one.
Jack of all trade master of non!! is the saying.
So one must concentrate on what ever one does.
Acquire knowledge not only schooling type but practical solid experience type.
Practise the things that one has leaned.
Introduce new concepts, method, theories, in short advance the field a notch or two.

No one can be the best but he /she sure can do his/ her best to be the best. And this is done though not much effort.. You just have to be simple, sincere and a soldier fighting to do it if you believe its the best thing to do to make you the best..
But above all, you should never count on anybody to do whatever has to be done. Because doing something on your own and succeeding is an acheivement on its own and the satisfaction out of it makes you the best.
However its easy to say all that but difficult to do it...but not impossible...
