yes offcourse u can drink it.
But avoid the first shower of rain as it contains all the pollutants. the water after that is the best, better then the botteled ones. my father drank and grew up i also drink it when i go ot my farm house as it is in dessert. it is good for your body, i don,t have a scientific experiment to prove it, but people from my village have been drinking, my dad did and my mum does it till today and they are in much better helath then the people then in the cities. there can be many other factors but i think water is one of them as our body is made of 95% of water..............
so enjoy it and avoid the first shower.......................

Firstly - how paranoid? Terrorist attacks on the water? Well maybe but you might get run over by a car and that's no reason to stop crossing the road. Rainwater in cities contains all sorts of carbon and soot from the area and just because you cannot see it does not mean it is not there. I am assuing you are in a city because you have hard water. The water in your taps has been treated to ensure it is safe to drink. If you are really worried about "hard" water then buy a Brita filter jug and cartridges and drink that, much cheaper then buying bottled water. By the way rinsing your hair with rain water is a great way to make it shiny but I wouldn't drink it. Other solution is to move to Wales or Scotland where there is soft water and less terrorist threats.

Regarding: Soft water being linked to heart problems.
I think the argument is that people who have soft water tend to drink more of it than people who have hard water (becasue it is tastier or thought to be safer)
Then some scientist actually measured the difference between lots of soft water vs. a little hard water and came up with a health scare ...
We need to drink a reasonable amount of water (say a couple of litres a day), so I don't think we need to get stressed about whether it is hard or soft ... life's too short.

Rain water is what it all comes from in the first place. As one who lives in a soft water area, I don't think that's what causes the heart problems here. Poor diet and genetic are more likely to be the cause.

AT ONE TIME our grandparent & theyre grandparents & so forth used to have barrels set next to the house that collected the rain water there isnt anything wrong with it they also used the water to fill their wells just because its 2006 it is ok to drink but i would use a filtering system but then again it cant be any worse on you than any other drink out there. My grandmother told me when she was a kid on the farm they used rain water to wash clothes & especially to wash their hair---made it very soft

rain water is not clean enough to drink due to evaporation.the water you want to drink has been soak up into the clouds from the ground and let back out when it rains. So you may as well lick your roof if your gonna drink it.Water is filtered by machine and completely safe to drink from the kitchen tap. When it rains the water mixes with dirt on the ground and boiling it isnt the answer!

rainwter is the cleanest water you can get, but how you get it is what now determines whether it is okay for you to drink it.
putting your bowl or bucket outside so that the water just drops directing into the bowl then you can safely drink it. but where the water drop from the roof there would be need to treat in any form you want for youto be able to drink it.

Yes, as youve boiled it, getting rid of most of the pollutants and sh*t. Its probably safer than tap water, really, and your not using water out of your local water supply, so the governmet will be happy! Everybody wins!!!

Rain water will contain whatever pollutants which are in the air. You could probably set up a filtration system though.

I drank nothing but rainwater as a kid. We did not boil it either. Add flouride tablets if you want to protect your teeth. You can buy other little tablets called puritabs that will kill microbes.
