Congratulations and Happy Anniversary. My Anniversary is also 12/31. 14 years. Don't know what to tell you about the Holiday though. I'm from the US and don't know any places aboard.

Well, you might find it odd taking advice from an American who's never been there on this subject, but I have heard that Spain is absolutely lovely, and that there are small, non-tourist places where the prices are reasonable. Best of all, my English friends who told me about it in the first place said its top-of-the-line for romantic!
Whatever you do, have a splendid time. And congratulations on your first anniversary, as that's a big deal in my book. A lot of people implode before they get there :)
Be well.

Hurghada in Egypt, or Marsa Allam . Hurghada is fun and more of a place that you can go out in at night. Marsa allam is also nice if you would really like new places that not alot of people go to from Britain. Either way you will get a great tan and can stay in 4 or five start hotels at cheap prices. People in Egypt are really nice and friendly and you will have a fun time.

Mauritius is the way to go!!
But you better hurry on the bookings if you really want to make it. The hotels get booked really fast, its like the whole of Asia wants to spend New Year's there. : - )
You can look for great offers at www.makemytrip.com
And hey! Happy Anniversary in advance.

Canary Islands is a great place to go. Gran Canaria is the big island and it has everything.
Great beaches, deserts, mountains and lakes. I spent two weeks there and I can't wait to go again. (it was pretty inexpensive, we rented a flat, so we could prepare some of our own meals.)

Honestly you could probably find some GREAT cheap rates on a cruise about that time. Then you could get someone warm on the christmas holidays.
