All the Celts have still got a massive chip on their shoulder about the English. Any country that once had an empire is hated by those it governed - even though where looking at events that happened centuries ago. If the English hated everyone that had invaded England we'd hate everyone - it's a land of invasion - the Angles came from Northern Germany themselves!
So, bless the Celts and their blinded hatred - good luck to both Wales and Scotland if they went it alone!

History provides the foundation of the Scots not liking the English. For centuries Scotland was invaded from the south. The crops were burnt, homes were destroyed, people murdered, women raped, etc, just because they were Scots.
I know my family dislike the English because in both World Wars the Scots fought hard to take gound and when an Englsih regiment took over they either lost the ground taken overnight, as in my Dad's case, or claimed the glory of the victory even though they only took over when the fighting was over.
For myself; I had an English uncle who married into the family. He took every opportunity to stir up trouble. I've studies alongside English students who were mostly okay, with the one exception. This one guy just didn't know when to stop and the other English guys apologised to us and dealt with the one causing trouble.
Commercially, too many companies transferred their HQ doen south a few years ago. Rosyth shipyard was closed so that shipbuilding orders went to Devonport. However, whereas Rosyth had experience building that type of ship for the RN Devonport had not, and currently the ships are almost 3 years behind schedule.
The BBC, or should I say the EBC (English Broadcasting Company) ignores Scotland in most newsworthy items. England play a friendly and it is on TV with full coverage; whereas Scotland play and it is barely mentioned. BBC dramas frequently portray Scots as drunken thieves; are there no English drunks or thieves?
If a Scots athlete wins a gold medal they become British; if they lose they are Scots. If an Englsih athlete wins a gold medal they are English.
The Scots can be Scottish and British but the English are English.
Scottish oil support the British economy and when it runs dry then England will grant Scotland its independence again.
I have a few English friends who live in Scotland and they understand our feelings because they live here and experience the reality. The English will always treat the Scots as second class citizens, yet English students come to Scotland to study, get their degree and disappear back south without repaying their fees, etc, whereas Scots studying in England have to repay their fees. Rather one-sided is it not?
Most Scots would rather be friendly, but sometimes the EBC and other media becomes too much.
What does it mean to be British? The rest of us know what this means and involves whereas the English have still to discover this simple secret. Treat everyone as an equal and stop shoving Englishness disguised as Britishness down everyones throat. We can be Scottish, Welsh, Irish and English, yet united under the Union Jack as British, but it may require some effort from that part of 'Britain' south of Hadrian's Wall.

Absolutely NOT. I have yet to meet a Scotsman who has a problem with the British and work with quite a few.
Most Scots have the attitude of live and let live but of course there are some exceptions, who cannot say in a sensible way why they do not like the English, but then again these people don't like anyone.

Not all of them of course. But I've been to Wales and I've seen a certain amount of hostility towards the English there as well.
