Can a person who hold the Power of Attorney be held responsible for bills not paid? For example, if you are named the Power of Attorney for a friend so you go about your duties of trying to for the person's bills, etc. while the other person is unable. Then, if let's say, there are really large hospital bills the other person has outstanding, can the hospital then go after your own personal finances you to pay the hospital bills since you hold the power of attorney? Or is that a not "allowed to do" on the hospital's part?

Thanks.

I was power of attorney for a friend. You will not be held responsible for any of their unpaid bills. It should tell you in your paper work.Pay as much as you can( with their money).Just like if they were paying their own bills.Good luck it is a hard job! p.s. call your attorney he will help you

A power of attorney can be either springing or general. The difference is that a springing power comes into being upon the occurance of an event while a general power is in estitance once it is signed.
A power allows the holder to act in the capacity of the grantor of the power when dealing with the grantors assets. It does not expose the power holders assets unless it can be shown that the power holder acted on their own behalf, diverted assets to their own use or some other fraudulent activity.
