Donkey has been used as carrier for menial and heavy works since the day man started going out to places on business. It is compared to a foolish person because donkey does not think on its own and the foolish person is a fool because he does not think on his own. But one thing donkey has the man wishes to excel. That is the longevity the animal lives in a life span. As you know it is said 'donkey's years' to denote a time which is really really a long time. The animal has both the traits which the human kind is compared with.

Cos a donkey is generally a difficult animal to direct and so also is a foolish person.
Like the donkey wont do what i want it to, and My mates a donkey he doesnt do what he's told ever

Because a foolish person does know fact about the situation and does not ready to learn or to agree with others.

In Hindi there is a saying, "gadhe ke seeng nahi hote", same goes for foolish person ;)
