The most obvious answer here is the Fish, because it's often found in schools. However the most obvious answer is not necessarily the correct one. The fish vs. tree paradigm is a question for the ages and undoubtedly one our forefathers struggled with many moons ago. From the information I have gleaned over the years, popular belief is that the tree is actually smarter. As to the common "but fish are in schools" approach, I give you this: the reason trees are smarter is that while fish are still in schools, trees have grown past that and branched out, leaving the fish in their shadows. Also, while the mannerisms of fish are often eratic and unpredictable, a tree can be relied on to be stable and firmly rooted.

The fish, even if it does have a 30 second memory at least it has a brain whereas a tree does not. You did say smarter and to be qualified as in the running at all you have to have a brain.

hmmmm this is a tough question... i believe a tree is smarter, i mean i asked a fish for the way to Paris and got no reply, but i asked a tree and it talked for hours about Paris...although the tree was in Brighton he said his family 'roots' were indeed French!

Techniqually they both have the main characteristics that biologist use to describe life. The only real differnce is different kingdoms becuase of the way that they get energy. You really have to define what you mean by smarter to. What do you consider the end potential for each?

The fish...he has freedom, can camouflage himself...if he goes away deep into the sea.....he could meet a mermaid!!..lol!

The tree is a giver...gives up everything...fruits, flowers, leaves(animals eat them), wood!!.....everything. The tree is like ...a sacrificer....but maybe smarter because.....because God loves sacrifice!!..

=o)
