if you went back 100 years and showed the people a plasma screen and xbox 360 told them we have put men on the moon and we got carriages that move without horses they'd think your mad. So probably yes!

Never say never! Hovering via the propulsion of air or via magnetic fields are probably not viable life mechanisms for hover cars, but anti-gravity is. Once we understand how to counteract the force of gravity, making a 'hover car' will be relatively simple. Of course, overcoming gravity is not a simple issue. We have a ways to go before we obtain the knowledge needed for this kind of thing. When? Lets say less than 100 years. See the following page for many links to anti gravity research:

The car in Back to The Future was a DeLaurian, with wheels. If they make hovercars for the roads I don't think the brakes are going to be up to standard

Never. Hover (i.e. Maglev) trains yes.

But if you think about the wheel is a pretty sound and efficient invention. If you had hover cars you would just get stuck in aerial traffic jams, and if your engine breaks in one of those you're a dead man.

Oh yeah.... even if ya do buy it you can't drive/fly it around. The Feds won't let you!

Unlikely with current technology as they don't stop or steer too well, they would have to repel each other or run in guide rails, I hope we don't get them, they would be rubbish to drive, no fun at all

As far as scientific knowledge goes. never... Too much energy to be spent against gravity... So better get used to old tire-asphalt friction type cars.

Think of the problems with stopping them if they did not touch the ground!
