Question : Is you were to visit colonial America, would you conclude that people were there to make money or to practice religious freedom?

both. It is well documented that colonist came here for riches and for religious and many other freedoms.
Even a casual reading of a history text on the subject would net that answer.

Good Question

The colonial settlers were with out a doubt lived by a capitalist creed. Sure, the earliest settlers just worried about making it through the first couple of years and were there because they and their beliefs were not very popular "across the pond", but the later were business men through and through.

Most of the men who led the revolution were upper class-men with businesses and money. Even the Boston Tea Party which we read about as children was about money (taxes) and not freedom. So you have realized something that many do not. Our countries reach for freedom was as much or more about money then it was about being free.

They were there to live as new settlers. They earned money for a living and they believed in God.
