Achilles was Greek. Hector was Trojan.
Therefore between these two it is obvious that Achilles was the Favorite one.:)

Achilles is the greatest.

Achilles was the favorite hero of Alexander the Great.

Hector was Trojan. He has a greek name though, it means "the man who holds (defends)".

I think that's a question that goes to personality, and what you define as "great" I think that Hector was the greater man, but Achilles, as a son of the gods was probably the greater warrior.

Hector

Trojan prince and hero, son of Priam and Hecuba, who commanded the Trojan forces and kept the Greeks away for nine years. His end came after he had killed Achilles' friend Patroclus. Achilles chased him around the walls of Troy three times, killed him, and then dragged his body tied by a rope to his carriage, refusing him a proper burial. After his father Priam had managed to get his body back, the funeral was held, ending the story of the Iliad.

I would say Hector. He fought fearlessly in a battle, which in the first place was not his.
