I enjoy singing but my voice seems weak when I record it, I don't think my range is fantastic either but I can stay in tune to most rock/pop songs. Is there a way to determine how I could get the best out of my voice or what type of music would my voice best suite ? Are there certain keys in music that are easier for men to sing in or is it trail and error ?

Look forward to your comments

To find the key easily depends on whether you are a musician too. If so you will be aware that your major note will probably be one of three so, for example, in the key of C you would start on E, C or G. Now then, an easy way to find your key is to pick a simple song like .'Coming round the Mountain', which starts

She'll be coming round the mountain when she comes'
Sing it unaccompanied in a comfortable key. When you have done. Sing it again but hold the note on 'coming' and play it on piano or guitar until the note you play corresponds with the note you sing. That's your key.

In the example the notes would be

She'll be coming round the mountain when she comes'
G........A..C.....C......C.....C....A.......G.....E.......G.......C

This method can be used for almost any song.

If you can get access to a piano (or more preferably a pianist) then work up and down the scale with your voice and work out where your highest and lowest point is - and also your 'brake' (where you move from resonating in your chest to your head/nose). You should find an area where you are most comfortable pretty quickly.

When you choose a score to sing, check to see if the notes are in your range - you probably won't have a specific key as such, but as long as you can reach everything comfortably you should be fine. Another consideration is the emotion of the song - don't choose a piece which requires you to belt-out in a range of notes in your head-voice. Unless you are trained you will sound like a strangled cat!

You can extend your range just by practicing scales and songs - but always warm up properly. A great way to warm up your voice without any straining is to learn to play a diggerydo - the vibration losens up your whole vocal area and really helps you resonate.

hi andy..
To increase your voice range is by doing exercise everyday by using you voice. For example, you do scale voice which is do re mi fa sol la ti do..The starting key usually is do=c (natural chord)..and then you raised the key to D, E , F,G,A,B, and then C'(which is one octave higher than the original one). It might be usefull if you have piano, or guitar to help you exercise. Or if you don't have some, you should try listen twinkle2 little star song in CD's or cassetes (cos this song starts with do = c) and take the first note which is do..And this do is equal to c.

ehmm,,to determine your type of music is based on your personality. If you really tuned in with pop music, it means that you have a pop sense..But, if you listened to jazz or countries, it means that it is your type of music..

There are some certain keys actually for some voices, many male voices can start with do = d or do = E...But, there are some possibilities that we should raised up the note or decrease down the note..Yeah, some trial and error should be done during practice before show...

this method is for the one who is doing some improvements in music individually..But, if you wanna get the best theory and technique, you should take some courses of singing..That might be very useful for you.

That's all buddy,,,hope this could help you...

if your voice is weak,,you must not sing the high notes yet, first you must singing,in the middle register of your voice, you will feel that your voice in the middle register is better than in the high notes,,after training your voice in the middle register,,you will have a good voice in the middle and step by step you begin to sing higher and higher.and try the humming excersises when you begin warming up your voice.

good luck
