Theres this girl that lives down the hall from my dorm room. She always smiles at me and stuff. I've never even had a conversation with her, but I feel like she does. Maybe I could be reading too much into it. I don't even know if she's gay. And, to top it off, I think she's older than me. Agghh! I just would like to know.

do it tactfully & patiently, maybe go out 2 a party wait for her 2 make a move. body language is usually a good indicator don't hide yours too much & check out hers but be sure that you're right before you jump 2 conclusions.
with someone living that close to you it could spell quite a number of unconfortable moments or an number of rather brilliant possibilities

Never assume anything about anyone!
A lot of people smile and other "stuff" when they pass someone, it is usually only their way of greeting another person that they don't know. I happen to do it all the time.
Best bet: Next time you see her, stop and intro. yourself and get a simple conversation going. No harm nor foul in that.
What's with the age thing? That should not be an issue.
Give your over active mind a rest and get to know the gal before you start asking personal questions.

then start a converation and then at the end ask her for her phone number.
