For Christmas vacation, I'm looking for a place with some beautiful beaches and a lot of relaxation, but enough infrastructure and enough to do that my friends and I won't be bored in a nine day vacation. December is the worst of monsoon season in Malaysia . . . what of the best beaches and resorts in Malaysia are least affected by the rainy season?

It's not monsoon season on the west coast at Christmas - I don't know where you got that idea from. But it is on the East Coast so avoid Redang / Kuala Terrenganu etc.

As per previous suggestions, you could try Penang. It's very touristy and busy, lots of nightlife, restaurants, food markets etc and big sky scraper hotels. You can also visit the Snake Temple, the Butterfly Farm or take the funi up Penang Hill for the views. The night markets are pretty impressive too.

However, I prefer Langkawi. It's a less touristy, quieter version of Penang. Fab beaches, and if you stay close to town - the Pelangi Beach, the Holiday Villas etc - there's more than enough to keep you entertained. The island is absolutely stunning and there are hundreds of deserted islands dotting the area - you can take a day trip out to one of these and just chill - it's fab. Try Bon Ton for a really good meal - there's a nice bar there too. It's also worth taking a trip up the cable car - the views are fantastic!

I'd also recommend spending a couple of days in KL - the nightlife is great, as is the shopping. Try Bangsar for bars and restaurants and for the night market on Sundays, Heritage Row for cool bars and clubs. Zouk is the superclub and has international DJs pretty much all the time, although Velvet Underground on Wednesdays is 80's music (more my scene). China Town is great for shopping and knock offs, and Bukit Bintang is great for just shopping - there are loads of food markets in the area where you can try all the local delicacies.

Have a wonderful time!

Where did you get the source that December is the worst of monsoon season in Malaysia? That is so inaccurate. Is only true if it is east peninsular.

Anyway, for beaches and resorts is better to stay west of the peninsular during the monsoon season. Penang Island, Port Dickson, Morib, Pangkor Island, and Langkawi Island is highly recommended.

If you insist to go east of the peninsular to feel the wind, rain, and do some sailing, go to Pulau Duyung, off Terengganu noted for its quality tradition of boat-making, will host the Monsoon Cup, scheduled to be held in late November and December. The Monsoon Cup serves as the Malaysian leg for the prestigious international sailing event, Dubbed ‘The Formula One of Sailing’, this professional sailing series was formed in 2000 to unite the world’s best match-race regattas under one banner. Pulau Duyung host the Monsoon Cup! Is on, I saw the advert on Astro pay per view tv. Check out the web site http://www.monsooncup.com.my AND check with your travel agencies for more details.

You should go to Langkawi, it is a small island but yet you would need a car. I stayed in Berjaya Langkawi; it is located about 30 minutes away from the port (there is a big eagle). The resort is located in a bush by the sea (it has its private beach as well), rooms consist of swiss chalets, you can take a ride on the hotels' minivans from the hotel reception to your rooms ; prepare yourselves to see some scorpions or snakes (do not worry too much they are not harmful unless you touch them). I have been to Penang but I found it boring..... so Langkawi is the place to be... you may as well visit Gunung Raya this is a small 'mountain' located in Langkawi......

In December it's rainy on the east coast but not on the west coast. The better beaches are on the east coast, so it may not be the best place to go in December for a beach vacation. Penang is way cool.

During the rainy season take a bus up to Kuala Kubu Bharu (KKB) and raft and kayak. When it's the rainy season the river Salangor is big and fun. You stay in huts right next to the river and take trips down the river with the indigenous Orang Asli, they are the guides and are amazing. KKB is a small town with great and friendly people and yummy food. Check out Tracks Outdoors and ask for Rubin or Karl -the owners.

I would say Penang..its just so beautiful or even better Christmas in Singapore is much nicer...where X'mas carols being played in all the shopping malls, u can really feel the x'mas spirit unlike in Malaysia they only play carols where the word 'Jesus' is not mentioned such as jingle bells, santa clause is coming to town etc. so its boring x'mas here in Malaysia.

It must be west coast.
If you need infrastructure with plenty to do, I would suggest Penang. There are many western visitors there, and plenty of facilities for them.
Beaches are all around the island, and some of the more remote ones are the most beautiful.
