I love a good movie full stop. A good movie can take you with it and generally if it did that to me I'd think I was the character when I leave the cinema. Raider's of the lost ark was a favourite when I was a kid! adventure is real cool but as I'm getting older sci-fi as in Matrix..which I took seriously!! and Psychological thrillers like The Firm and let me not forget a good comedy..that's got to be the way to go escape laughing! last film I saw was Devil wears Prada not bad heard myself laugh a couple of times xxx

I'm surprised no-one has mentioned these two genres thus far. War films tend to bring out the best in alot of actors and directors. Even if they are just based around the insanity of war (e.g. Schindler's List, Apocalypse Now) they still make for the best film setting. Saving Private Ryan, Zulu and The Last of the Mohicans are just other great examples of why war films are so a good film genre.

The other genre is westerns. Of course there are alot of bad westerns out there. Thankfully the genre had Sergio Leone and Clint Eastwood to save it. 'Unforgiven' and the Spaghetti western's, especially 'The good, the bad and the ugly', are all I need say to backup this genre.

there are great movies in every genre. Any film that engages your emotions and stays in your mind long after you've left the cinema is great. I love comedy and horror but sadly I rarely laugh or am terrified in the cinema these days.
