if i press shift+2 i get @. when i press shift+' i get ". these are the wrong way around. how can i get them back the way they were.

My computer has both keyboard mappings, the US English one gives the @ when SHIFT-2 is pressed, whereas the French Canadian setting gives "

Go to Start->Control Panel->(classic mode)->Regional Settings->Languages tab->Details button

There you can select the layout you need and choose a default if you want more than one. I would also recommend you choose to show the language bar if you have multiple languages setup.

It's gone to the US default. Start ► Control Panel ► Region & Language ► Going through the Tabs ► Format ► Change the drop down to English Australia Location ► Change the drop down to Australia Keyboards & Languages ► General ► English (Australia) Installed Services ► You should only have English Australia. If you also have an English US in there as well, highlight it and click on Remove. Then all the usual Applys and OKs!

Sounds like you have a multi-lingual keyboard, like it has English Alphabet and Greek? shift 2 is the @ symbol and instead of using shift on the second item, don't shift and you'll get what your after '

Otherwise, there is a program in windows called 'character map' where you can re-assign keys

press and hold control + shift buttons for 5 seconds and try again shift + 2 for @ symbol.

You may hold the "Ctrl" and Shift for about 4.5 seconds and you will get @ when you press 2

Go into the Control Panel and the Language icon. Change the keyboard layout from USA to British and you should get the " sign.

I hate to say this but shift+2 should get you the @ symbol, maybe you need to change the global setting for your keyboard?

You need to change the language settings on your keyboard, it should be accessible through the control panel on your machine under "Regional and Language Options" change them all to English, or wherever you are from .
