Character is what is handed to us by our family or genes and the society where we live. Besides these factors, what we have is a free will. Corruption of mind takes place in the modern world, by various factors. It is very easy to get yourselves contaminated in your thoughts. For you to be a man of character, and remain so rock like, you need to persevere hard. Try and seek out the company of the good and the morally superior people (Satsang). There are a number of old literature in each language, that open up the path to higher life. Religion, without being bound by blind dogmas, if followed as a way of life, will certainly uplift your character. Character building is nothing but a process of strengthening of your mind. Mind should not be allowed to go the easy and wrong way. If so, mind will itself turn out to be your enemy. Mind, if trained in the hard path of discipline and truthfulness, will be your guide and guru.

Sure,
Stick to your guns, don't change your mind for anyone.
Be a little more stubborn, your word is your bond!
Stay true to yourself, don't be a follower be a leader, you will be more respected in the long run.
Pick and choose your battles, be wise. Always think a head, and be one step ahead of the next.
Don't boost and brag, but than again if thats your character than why not?

A moral compass needs to point firmly in the direction of the betterment of self and others. I do think those of weak character can analyse their deficiencies and try to figure out a positive direction in which to point their compass. An analysis indicating deficiency must be married with positive directions and hope. Being honest and aware of your weaknesses while trying to better yourself in a disciplined way. You also need to be kind and forgiving of yourself.
