wherever i am i always see someone crossing their legs (at the knee) i've seen so many people do it mainly women. my gilfriend always crosses her legs when she sits no matter what she is wearing. i was just curious why people do it, and do you notice when you do or out of habbit?

true, one shud b careful and more responsible while crossing legs. hving said this i must agree its pretty comfortable

AGAIN.
I do it because I find it comfortable and it takes the pressure off my back.
I have, however, heard that it is very bad for your lower leg(calf) as it disrupts the blood flow.
It's probably got a lot to do with my culture as well. I WOULD find it comfortable because I have been sitting that way for a long time (though generally when I am out I cross my legs at the ankle because I find it a more conservative way to sit.)
Come to think of it, if I had the choice, I would sit on a chair backwards, leaning my arms across the back rest (wearing pants, of course!)

This is a very common feminine way of sitting, call it feminine ettiqutte. It started with the concept that the girls in UK used to wear Frocks, and the ladies - Skirts. So a part of their leg was always seen, and used to invite attention of men, (I feel it was welcome, but) to avoid any controvercies, they used to cross their legs ( Giving a Signal of NO Entry).
But the same this is a strict Forbidden for Men. It is not accepable for men to sit like that.

For me it is habit! However it is said within the psychology circle that sitting with your legs wide open is an invitation and an alert that you are open to many things. As ladies like to keep them guessing they keep theirs closed but in the sexiest way possible.lol

I usually sit with one leg under my bum, but sitting crossed legs is just plain comfy!!!

I think its habit. But bad for varicose veins for women if they do it constantly.
