Is spinach an inferior or a normal good? What happens to Popeye's demand curve for spinach?

For Popeye, its probably a need, not a want. So, he'd probably buy let turnips as opposed to less spinach. The demand stays the same. But because his income falls, he may buy less and just ration it. I'd say it would down shift only slightly.

Spinach apparently gives him extra strength, therefore it is not a need. Plus, there are more cheaper vegetables on the market.

If his salary decreases, then he will have less money to buy spinach leading to a decrease in purchase (spinach).

He plays it safe and sticks with Olive oil...
