When someone breaks a record and gets put in the Guiness book of World Records, is their mention in the book the only prize, or do they get some kind of cash reward as well?

No cash reward. Just some sort of a framed medal that acknowledges the award.
My old High School broke the world record for making the worlds biggest quilt. It was almost the size of our Rugby field.
(hmmm, or maybe they got a cash reward, and the teachers kept it for themselves? That would explain the refurbishment of the staffroom.)

Entry in the GBOWR and a cretificate, but only if it's a recognised record (anything supposedly bad for you has now been removed)
